Previously, the Information Structure root was not created until a user selected Information Structure in the Navigator. However, this might cause a problem if the user does not have permission to create an Information Structure. We introduced a preference so the Information Structure root will be created automatically when the Product is created.

When a product is created in Windchill using the Service Information Manager General Product template, you can set a configuration using which a root information structure is automatically created for the product. This configuration is controlled by the Create Primary Information Structure on Product Creation preference. The preference is set to No by default. Select yes to enable the automatic creation of an information structure root for the new Service Information Manager product.

By default, the information structure will have the same name as the product and, will be the primary information structure for that product.
