Creating a Context Reference
*
Your ability to create and modify objects within the Network table depends on the access control rules set at your site. For more information, see Accessing Data.
When you create a context reference, you define the network relationship of the context you are referencing to the current context. This Relation attribute is used to sort and group information in the Network table and the Parents table. For information on adding a context reference to an object, see Contexts table.
*
You must use the Add Context to Network action to create a context reference. If you use the clipboard to copy and paste a context into the Network table, the context is added as an object link instead.
Use the following procedure to create a context reference:
1. Click the add context reference icon on the Network table toolbar.
2. From the Add Context to Network window, complete the following fields:
Field
Description
Context
Click the find icon to search for the context you want to reference. For more information, see Finding a Context.
Description
Enter a brief description of the context reference.
Location
Use the drop-down menu to select a network structure folder in which you want to store the context reference.
Relation
Use the drop-down menu to indicate the relationship of the context you are referencing to the current context in the network. The types of relationships you can specify vary depending on the solutions you have installed at your site and any customizations made by your site administrators. Basic relationship types include:
Related
—The referenced context is related to, but not dependent on, the context.
Dependent—The referenced context contains data that is dependent on the context but is not considered a child context.
Child—The referenced context is a lower-level context that contains information derived from or dependent upon the context.
Parent—The context is a child to the referenced context.
3. Click OK to close the Add Context to Network window and create the context reference. Click Apply to add another context reference.
Once a context reference is added, you can later modify its attributes or move it within the Network table.
