Allocating an Existing Part Instance
Allocation is used to specify the part instances used in a parent part instance. All of the lower level part instance lot/serial numbers must be allocated to fully describe a higher level serialized assembly part instance.
The following criteria must be met to allocate a child part instance to a parent part instance:
The selected part usage in the parent assembly has one or more existing part instances.
The selected part is not a configurable part.
You have modify permission for the parent part instance.
Use the following procedure to allocate existing part instances:
1. From the Structure tab on the information page of the higher level part instance, select the lower level traceable part in the structure pane and select Allocate Existing Part Instance from the right mouse button menu.
*
A traceable part must also be specified as traceable in the parent assembly. Change the Trace Code in the Uses tab of the part Structure shown on the part information page.
2. The Allocate Existing Part Instance window shows the Part Instance and Base Part of the parent part instance in the section labeled Allocate to. The section labeled Select existing part instance for shows the traceable part for which a part instance is being selected and a drop-down list labeled Part Instances. Select the lot and/or serial number of the part instance to be allocated from the choices in the drop-down list.
The part instance structure is refreshed to show the lot and/or serial numbers of the allocated instances.
*
The configuration specification for the part instance structure may be set such that the base part of the allocated instance is shown with the part master icon. Change your configuration specification to see the base part version in the part instance structure. For more information, see Filter Action Set - Part Instances.
*
The Allocate Existing Part Instance action may be performed on an nonoccurrence summary row. In this situation a new occurrence is created and the existing part instance is allocated in the same operation. The quantity of the nonoccurrence summary row is decreased by one and the new occurrence is displayed in a separate row. If the creation of the new occurrence reduces the nonoccurrence summary row quantity to 0 the summary row disappears.
*
It is possible to create a new part instance and allocate it to a parent part instance in the same operation. For more information, see Allocating a New Part Instance.
