Best Practices
Network Requirements
To ensure the best experience with Chalk, make sure your network configuration is working properly. For more information, see the following topics:
Environment
The following things help create the best environment when in a Chalk session:
• The environment where you chalk should have a lot of defined features.
• A well lit area will perform better. You can use your device’s light if necessary.
• Avoid reflective surfaces if possible.
• Chalk marks stick best to objects which do not move.
Chalk Partners
• Both Chalk partners should have a high bandwidth connection.
• Be sure that you converse with your Chalk partner so that you understand their Chalk marks.
• On-screen instructions will inform both Chalk partners if there are any issues.
If You’re Receiving Help
Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re the person receiving help in a Chalk session.
• Chalk Marks stick best to objects that have visual details like buttons, images, designs, and shapes with corners.
• Chalk Marks don’t stick well to plain or reflective surfaces.
• Make sure that the object is stationary, as objects that move don’t track well.
• Steady movements help Chalk understand your environment. Move slowly like you’re shooting a video.
• Chalk works best in well-lit places. If you need extra light, you can turn on the flashlight on your phone from within Chalk.
If You’re Giving Help
• Communicate clearly with the person you’re trying to help and let them know what you need to see.
• Use simple drawings to communicate instructions.
• Use the Undo action to delete drawings that are no longer necessary in order to remove clutter.
• Use the Pause button to steady an image, then draw your Chalk Marks.
