ThingWorx XMPP Edge MicroServer (EMS) Software
ThingWorx has the ability to connect very quickly and easily to the physical world and structured data systems.
The XMPP Edge MicroServer (EMS) acts as an interface between intelligent devices and the ThingWorx server. The XMPP EMS shares information and data with the server using the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard instant messaging protocol called the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP). The XMPP standard defines a highly scalable and secure mechanism for providing real-time interactive messaging between two or more entities.
This section details the XMPP EMS and the corresponding Edge Thing software components. For information on the newest Edge MicroServer (ThingWorx 5.0 and later), the WebSocket-based Edge MicroServer (WS EMS), please see the ThingWorx WebSocket-based Edge MicroServer (WS EMS) and Lua Script Resource (LSR) section.
*
As of release 8.1 of ThingWorx platform, PTC is ending the life of the ThingWorx XMPP Edge MicroServer. The XMPP EMS is no longer available to any new customer. New customers should use the ThingWorx WebSocket-based Edge MicroServer (WS EMS) instead.
