What is an Industrial Gateway?
An Industrial Gateway is a formal ThingWorx Thing model contract between an Edge implementation and a ThingWorx Platform. It maps Industrial PLC tags to one or more properties on one or more "Industrial" Things. An Industrial Gateway represents an aggregation of data sources. For example, an OPC UA Server such as ThingWorx Kepware Server is connected to one or more PLCs. Each PLC can contain one or more tags. The Industrial Gateway routes tag data to one or more properties on one or more Things.
In this integration, one Industrial Gateway aggregates data from multiple Industrial Things, and the IoT Hub Connector can source multiple Industrial Gateways. If you have multiple OPC UA Servers at the Edge, each OPC UA Server endpoint will represent one Industrial Gateway.
The Industrial Gateway provides access to discovery services that allow you to browse OPC UA endpoints. It also provides telemetry subscription services and telemetry routing logic.
