Types of File Transfers
Three types of file transfers are supported by Axeda agents, the eMessage Connector, and ThingWorx Platform:
ThingWorx Platform-initiated file downloads
ThingWorx Platform-initiated file uploads
Agent-initiated file uploads
ThingWorx Platform users can download files to Axeda agent devices. While downloads are initiated at ThingWorx Platform only, uploads can be initiated at ThingWorx Platform or the Axeda agent devices. The Axeda agents can initiate file uploads, based on data received, alarms generated, or other events that occur on the agent device. For example, a FileWatcher could detect a change in the file that would result in the file being uploaded. Working with the eMessage Connector, ThingWorx Platform can process these agent-initiated file uploads.
Axeda agents can also respond to requests from a platform for specific files to be uploaded. For example, to troubleshoot an issue, a technician monitoring a device through ThingWorx Platform might request that the agent upload log files by invoking the Copy service of the File Transfer Subsystem.
