Configuring Editing Options for the Document View

• Save each row after editing turns on single-row editing. This is the initial default edit mode, which saves changes to a content row as soon as you leave the row. For more information, see Using Single-Row Editing.

• Edit multiple rows before saving turns on multiple-row editing. Introduced in Integrity 10.8, this edit mode allows you to make changes to multiple content rows before saving changes to the server. For more information, see Using Multiple-Row Editing.

The selected edit mode determines the options that are shown and available in the other sections of this tab.

• Show confirmation message before saving a modified item is shown for single-row editing. This check box is initially cleared by default so that the Save Changes? window does not open when you leave a content row in which you have made changes. Your changes are immediately submitted to the server. If you select this check box, the Save Changes? window opens when you leave a row with changes.

• Show confirmation message before saving modified items is shown for multiple-row editing. This check box is initially selected by default so that the Save Changes? window opens when you attempt to save changes to the server. You must confirm whether to submit your changes. If you clear this check box, the Save Changes? window does not open when you save changes.

Drag and Drop — Select the desired drag-and-drop behavior to apply to the current view and subsequent views, until the options change:

• Move (Default) relocates selected nodes to below the target node, which can be in the same document or a different document. Show move content confirmation message specifies whether a confirmation window is to open after a successful drag-and-drop operation. This assumes that keyboard shortcuts are not used. When keyboard shortcuts are used, no confirmation windows open. Additional information about special behaviors and keyboard shortcuts for drag-and-drop operations follow the option descriptions.

• Prompt causes a window to open so that you can choose the behavior when you perform the drag-and-drop operation. Choices are Move, Copy, and Create Trace.

For the Move and Copy choices, you can also select the drop location. Choices are Below, As Subsection, and Above.

• Create Trace creates a trace relationship of the selected nodes being dragged to the target node. If Show create trace content confirmation message is selected, a confirmation window opens before the trace relationship is created.

• You cannot move or copy content of one type into a document that has nodes of a different type. For example, you cannot move nodes from a Requirements document into a Test document.

• You cannot move or copy a non-document model item into an open document in the Documents view as this is not supported.

• Dragging a segment from the Items view to the Document view always inserts the segment as a subdocument.

• You cannot drop items on the default virtual row or drag the default virtual row to drop it on some other row.

• The Move operation is supported only within a document when the document has unsaved changes.

• You can drag rows and drop them on other rows, even when unsaved changes exist. The rows with unsaved changes can be either the modified contents with IDs or edited virtual rows having only section IDs.

• If the Move operation contains edited virtual rows, the Show move content confirmation message specifies the section IDs for the affected virtual rows. This is true when an edited virtual row is either a dragged row or a target row for the drop.

• You cannot move a parent node above, below, or as a subsection to any of its children using the drag-and-drop operation. Attempting such an operation does not make any changes to the document structure.

You can use the following keyboard shortcuts, where “DnD” refers to the drag-and-drop operation itself. While tooltips appear when you use keyboard shortcuts to help give context to the operation, no confirmation messages are shown.

• CTRL+DnD—Document content is copied.

• ALT+DnD—A trace relationship is created between document contents.

• SHIFT+ALT+DnD—The Link Relationships window opens so that you can select a relationship field for the creation of a relationship between document contents.

When a document is modified during multiple-row editing, an error appears if you try to create a trace relationship or link relationship with keyboard shortcuts.

Operations Mode has only one option, which is for specifying the selection for delete, cut, copy, paste, and move operations for single-row editing. When Edit multiple rows before saving is selected, Section is enforced during multiple-row editing. When Save each row after editing is selected, you can select from any of the following choices:

• Content allows you to work on both sides of the view, moving or highlighting items without their children. Document structure is not preserved.

• Section allows both sides of the view to have the same behavior. Actions on highlighted items select and act on the items and their children. Document structure is preserved.

Mixed maintains the previous behavior of the Document view. Selections in the Outline pane (left) move both parent and children. Selections in the Content pane (right) move the selected item only, without children.

When working with multiple open Document views during single-row editing, you can apply different operation mode settings to each view. These settings persist as long as the views remain open. When you switch focus from one view to another, the settings change accordingly. If you open new Document views, the last modified settings are applied.
