Introduction to Recipe Editing for Converting CAD Data
A recipe is a set of tool-specific default rules that drive the Creo View MCAD Adapter conversion process. The recipe is saved in a recipe (*.rcp) file. The recipe converts CAD data into a form suitable for viewing on a wide range of environments. While most CAD data is converted efficiently using the default recipes, some data requires modifications to the recipe to improve the detail and quality of the viewable. The CAD data varies from tool to tool, as do the options available in the Recipe Editor. Recipe options that are unavailable are either not relevant for the particular tool you are configuring, or are modifiable only in Admin mode.
Running the Recipe Editor in its default mode allows modification to the most commonly-used recipe settings, including those for the specific CAD tool. Admin mode contains more sensitive and customized configurations. Changes to settings available in Admin mode can result in invalid Creo View structures or viewables. Only make changes in Admin mode if you are an experienced System Administrator or at the specific request of PTC Technical Support.
The <install_path>/recipe directory contains the master recipe files, such as <adapter>2pv.pvr, for the Creo View Adapter. Do not edit these files. This may cause problems when you upgrade the adapter. The <adapter>_config utility creates a configuration specific recipe file, <adapter>2pv.rcp, in the <setup_directory>. For more elaborate customization, contact Technical Support.
You can find information about the Recipe Editor in the following locations in this document:
The tab-by-tab setting topics that follow—Includes all the options of each tab or subtab.
Performing Recipe Editor Tasks chapter—Includes recipe setting procedures that apply to numerous adapters.
Advanced Adapter Configurations sections in the specific adapters chapters—Includes settings that apply to specific adapters. Some adapters do not have specific settings.
When you update a Creo View Adapters version, you need to also update the Recipe file. See Updating the Creo View Adapter and Recipe Editor Version for update instructions.
