About Press Fit
A press fit, also known as an interference fit, is used to hold two parts together with friction, and without the use of any other fasteners. It is typically used for gears, pulleys, and railroad wheels in which the shaft diameter is slightly larger than the bore hole diameter.
The figure below shows a Creo Simulate assembly with a shaft passing through the hole of a pulley. Note that the shaft diameter is slightly larger than the hole diameter. During a static analysis with a contact interface between the shaft and the pulley, both the shaft and pulley will deform in order to prevent the two parts from interpenetrating each other.
