Automatic Naming of Datum Feature Symbols in Model-Based Definition
The name of the datum feature symbol is assigned automatically.
User Interface Location: Click Annotate > Datum Feature Symbol.
Release: Creo Parametric 4.0
Benefits and Description
You can watch a video that demonstrates this capability.
When creating a datum feature symbol, the next available name in the standard sequence (A, B, C, and so on) is automatically assigned. You can change the label at any time from the Datum Feature tab. If a datum label in the sequence is missing, the next datum feature symbol to be created fills that gap. The datum labels are checked to make sure they conform to the conventions specified by the ASME Y14.5 standard. The label must be either one or two uppercase letters, and the letters O, Q, and I are not permitted. The label is also checked for uniqueness within the model to ensure that two datum feature symbols do not share the same label. Datum feature symbols that violate these rules are identified in the user interface by a red wavy underline in the box where you type the label name and in the graphics window by a red underline in the annotation. If you place the pointer over the red wavy underline in the ribbon, a message appears that describes the error.
