To Create a Datum Point by Projecting a Point onto a Plane or Line
You can create a new datum point by projecting an existing point (datum point, vertex, or end of a curve) onto a line or surface. The new point is created where an imaginary axis, which goes through the source point and is normal to the line or surface, intersects with the line or surface.
The source point can be a datum point, vertex, or end of a curve, and it can be projected onto a datum plane, planar surface, datum axis, linear edge, linear curve, or axis of a coordinate system.

1. Click Model, click the arrow next to Point, and click Point. The Datum Point dialog box opens.
2. In the graphics window, select a point. The point appears in the References collector.
3. In the References collector, click the arrow next to the constraint, and select Project.
4. Hold down the CTRL key while you select a plane or a line in the graphics window. The plane or line appears in the References collector with the constraint set to On.
5. Click OK.
