Using Open Sketches under Special Conditions
There are several conditions under which using an open sketch causes changes in a sketch-based feature. Begin defining or redefining the feature. When you try to approve an open sketch, you receive a message that gives you the choice of either staying in Sketcher to create a closed sketch, or approving the open sketch and accepting a change to the feature.
Automatic Switching from Solid to Surface
In a solid feature in a model that does not contain any solid geometry, and in which thicken is not selected, the feature has nothing to intersect with. If you use an open sketch, the feature automatically changes to a surface feature.
Automatic Removal of Draft in an Extrude Feature
In an Extrude feature with the Add Taper check box selected, an open section is not allowed with the taper option. If you use an open sketch, the taper option becomes unavailable.
Automatic Removal of Capped Ends
In a feature with the Capped ends check box selected, an open section is not allowed with the capped ends option. If you use an open sketch, the capped ends option becomes unavailable.
