To Insert Datum Targets
1. Annotate >
Datum Target. A dynamic preview of the datum target frame appears. The
Select Reference dialog box opens.
2. Select one of the following reference options on the Select Reference dialog box:
◦ — Any reference on an entity or surface.
◦ — The midpoint of an edge or an entity.

The datum target frame appears attached to the selected reference with a leader. You can move the datum target frame to a location. The leader moves along with the datum target frame with its other end attached to the point selected on the reference.
3. Click the wheel button to place the datum target frame at a location. The Datum Target ribbon tab opens. After you place the datum target, you can also click the datum target to open the Datum Target ribbon tab.
4. After you place the datum target frame, you can update the properties of the datum target with the following options that are available on the Datum Target ribbon tab. You can specify as follows:
◦ Target Area, as Point, Circle, Rectangle, or None.
◦ Size and select datum references from the model.
◦ Place the target area size inside or outside the datum target symbol.
◦ Move or rotate the datum target symbol.
◦ The arrow style for the attached leader.
◦ A straight leader without elbow or no leader at all.
◦ Set the leader to the near-side or far-side of the selected reference.
When you finish placing the datum target, a corresponding entry is added to the Annotations group under the relevant view tag, on the Model Tree.
For a placed or existing datum target, you can right-click and change the reference of the datum target, erase, or move it to another view.
