To Insert Imported Surfaces in a Part
1. Open a part and click Model > Get Data > Import. The Open dialog box opens.
 
* If you select a coordinate system in the existing part model before you click Model > Get Data > Import, you can insert the imported feature with reference to the selected coordinate system.
2. Set Type to the file type of a part model that consists of surfaces.
3. Browse and select the part model with the surfaces.
4. Click Import. The File dialog box and the Import tab open.
 
* You must select options in the File dialog box before you proceed to use options on the Import tab.
5. Retain the import profile in use or select a saved import profile from the Profile list. Click Details to modify the current import profile settings. You can also set some of these options in the File dialog box.
6. Set Geometry as the Import type or retain the default selection of Automatic, depending on the file type of the selected model.
7. Click Customize layer filter and set the import status of layers with redundant data to Blank, Skip, or Ignore in the Layer Import Options dialog box if you want to hide or exclude the redundant data.
8. Click OK in the File dialog box.
9. Select a coordinate system as reference to place the imported surfaces or click Datum > to create an asynchronous coordinate system.
 
* The imported surfaces are placed at the default location or at the placement coordinate system you selected in the existing part model before you clicked Model > Get Data > Import.
The following options to represent the imported geometry as solid protrusions, surfaces, or cuts are available on the Import tab:
—Imports the geometry as solids when the imported geometry consists of closed quilts. You can insert the imported geometry as a protrusion when the existing part model consists of solid geometry.
—Imports the geometry as surfaces.
—Imports the geometry as solids when the imported geometry consists of closed quilts. You can insert the imported geometry as a cut feature in the existing model when its geometry consists of solid features.
 
* These options are not available when the imported geometry does not contain closed quilts.
10. Click to import and insert the surfaces in the selected model to the existing part.
11. Click on the Import tab to insert the imported surfaces in the part and quit the Import tab.
