To Export a Model to Wavefront
1. Open a part or assembly and click File > Save As > Save a Copy. The Save a Copy dialog box opens.
2. Select Wavefront (*.obj) in the Type box. The model name without the extension appears in the File name box.
3. In File name, accept the default name or type a new model name for the export.
4. Click Options to customize the export profile settings or click OK in the Save a Copy dialog box to export the part or assembly model using the format-specific default export profile options.
If you clicked Options, the Wavefront Export Profile Settings profile editor opens.
5. Customize the export settings in Wavefront Export Profile Settings or click Load Profile to select an existing Wavefront export profile in the Open export profile dialog box.
6. Click OK in Wavefront Export Profile Settings.
7. Click OK in the Save a Copy dialog box. You are prompted to select a datum plane or coordinate system to define the uv-map.
8. Select a datum plane or coordinate system in the model or the Model Tree. The Export Wavefront dialog box opens.

* Select a datum plane for a planar projection of the u-v mapping or select a coordinate system for a spherical projection of the u-v mapping on to a sphere. The spherical projection of the u-v mapping is centered at the origin of the coordinate system with the z-axis of the sphere coincident with the z-axis of the coordinate system.
The Group to export text box displays the name of the datum plane or coordinate system you selected to define the u-v texture mapping.
9. Change the Deviation control values for Chord height, Angle control, and Step size.

* The values that you specify for Chord height, Angle control, and Step size are stored as the Most Recently Used (MRU) values.
10. For assembly models, select the following options:
Use proportional chord heights—Sets the maximum chord height proportional to the size of each component.
Use proportional step sizes—Sets the maximum step size proportional to the size of each component. Use this option with Step Size.
11. Specify a name for the exported model in File name. Model name is the default.
12. Click Apply to export the part or assembly to Wavefront or click OK to export and close the dialog box. A Wavefront .obj file containing triangles of all part surfaces and quilts is generated by the name, <filename>.obj. Another file, <filename>.mtl, that contains information about the colors assigned to the various parts and quilts, is also generated.
