About Filtering Layers to Customize Import
All layers are imported with a default import status when you import part and assembly models. The Layer Import Options dialog box displays the layer definition of the models in the files selected for import, insert, or reload.
For part models, the Layer Import Options dialog box displays a list of layers used in the parts with the layer names and their import status. The Layer Import Options dialog box allows you to filter part layers, create layer filters, reset the layer import status, and map layer names. You can interactively filter the layers of parts and part components of assemblies when you import models and reset the layer filters when you reload the source files of the imported features.
For assembly import, the Layer Import Options dialog box opens only when the assemblies consist of monolithic subassembly components and part components, not multi-file assemblies. The Layer Import Options dialog box displays a standard layer tree with a top-level layer tree node that you can expand to verify the layers and the components assigned to them. You can only apply a single status to each layer. The status of a layer is valid for all the part components assigned to that layer.

* Some 3D formats do not support layer filtering.
When you filter part layers, you can verify the assignment of geometric entities for each layer in the Layer Import Options dialog box. Therefore, you can set layer filters based on the layer status. You can set layer filters in the Layer Import Options dialog box to exclude or hide redundant data that is organized on layers in the file selected for import or reload. If superfluous construction data is organized on layers, you can filter the layers with the superfluous data when you import models or insert geometry into existing models.
You must reset the layer filters when you reload the source files as layer filtering is not stored with the import features. While reloading the source files of the imported features, you must click the Customize layer filter option in the File dialog box to reset layer filters in the Layer Import Options dialog box. You can interactively change the layer filters in the Layer Import Options dialog box.

* The Layer Import Options dialog box is not available for the customization of the layer filters for ATB-enabled import features.
