About Data Exchange Between NX and Creo
You can import NX part and assembly .prt files and export Creo parts and assemblies as NX .prt files. You require the Creo UG/NX Collaboration license to export parts and assemblies as NX files. NX part and assembly files have the same .prt file extension.
You must explicitly select the Import option in the File Open dialog box to import NX part and assembly files because the File Open dialog box provides the Open option by default for NX models. You can, therefore, open NX parts and assemblies as non-Creo models by default without creating the corresponding Creo models.
You can use the Creo UG/NX Collaboration with Associative Topology Bus (ATB) to import and export:
Basic geometry such as quilts, surfaces, and assembly structures
Simple datum features such as planes, axes, points, curves, and coordinate systems with datum tags
Layers, including user-defined layers, and their details such as their structures, IDs, and assignments
The visibility status of layers and the model-level entities assigned to them such as solids, components, and datum entities
Colors of parts, components, assemblies, datum features, surfaces, and solid bodies including the face colors of solid bodies
Colors assigned directly and indirectly to the sub-assembly models
Material properties of models
You can export model-level string parameters as attribute value-pairs to NX. Material name, material description, and density with units of parts and assembly models are exported.
Basic geometry imports as solid geometry. You can import part and model-level attributes, user-defined model attributes, and attributes assigned to datum entities. Part and assembly level string, integer, real, Boolean, and date type attributes import as attribute value-pairs. You can import material properties such as material name, description, and density that are defined in the NX models. The import of NX parts and assemblies creates Translated Image Models (TIMs).
If you set the Representation option as Structure on the Import New Model dialog box, you can selectively import the product structures and meta data of the NX assemblies. You can use the Read Graphics and the Read Master ATB commands to change the representation of the TIMs from product structure to their graphic and master representations, respectively, at the assembly and component level. You can thus vary the level of detail of the assemblies to have a selective mix of product structure and graphic representations of components. If you set Representation as Graphic on the Import New Model dialog box during the initial import of the NX assemblies, you can import the visualization data of the assemblies with their product structures.
You can use import and export profiles for the exchange of data between NX and Creo. Import and export log files are automatically generated in the working directory for the import and export tasks.
