Creating Beam Structure Models for Creo Simulate
In order to perform structural analyses of framework assemblies in Creo Parametric, you must use a special set of linear profiles when creating a Creo Advanced Framework model. These profiles are included in the Creo Advanced Framework installation files. You must replace the regular profile set by this special profile set before you start to design a new framework assembly. If you use these profiles while designing, the assembled profiles contain the data needed by Creo Simulate to create a structural analysis model with beam elements that are easily converted to a Creo Simulate structural analysis model (this works only for linear steel profiles) as shown below. To replace a profile set, change the name of the following directories:
Old name
New name
<afx_installation_directory>/parts/profiles/steel_beams_mm>
<steel_beams_mm_original>
<afx_installation_directory>/parts/profiles/steel_beams_inch>
<steel_beams_inch_original>
<afx_installation_directory>/parts/profiles/steel_beams_mm_mechanica>
<steel_beams_mm>
<afx_installation_directory>/parts/profiles/steel_beams_inch_mechanica>
<steel_beams_inch>

* Once the directories are renamed, all framework assemblies designed in Creo Advanced Framework will contain data for structural analysis in Creo Simulate.
To convert a Creo Advanced Framework assembly into a Creo Parametric beam model using the special profile set:
1. Create a simplified representation and name it Mechanica in the Creo Parametric View Manager.
2. Redefine this simplified representation in the view manager using "substitute" and "by rep" as rules.
3. Select all the profile models in the Model Tree. The Creo Simulate model appears in the Model Tree substitution list, as every beam model has a simplified representation named Mechanica.
4. Click Accept and Preview in the Creo Parametric view manager. All beam models are replaced by their Creo Simulate simplified representations. The profiles' solid geometry is removed, leaving a datum curve which carries the beam's cross section data for Creo Simulate.
5. Close the Creo Parametric View Manager.
6. Click Applications > Simulate and then on the Home tab, click Structure Mode. A structural analysis model of your framework assembly is displayed.
