Setting Up a Model
When you enter Creo Simulate with a new model, you need to specify the mode that you want to operate in and the model type. To do this click > to open the Model Setup dialog box. This dialog box includes these items:
• Capability Mode—Selects the
Creo Simulate Lite check box to run
Creo Simulate in a mode with limited functionality–
Creo Simulate Lite. Clear the
Creo Simulate Lite check box to run
Creo Simulate in the standard integrated mode. A
Creo Parametric license is sufficient to run
Creo Simulate Lite. You do not need a
Creo Simulate license to work in Lite mode.
| Creo Simulate Lite mode is available only in integrated mode. It is not available in standalone mode. |
• Mode—Assumes that you want to operate in native mode in its default state. Select the FEM Mode check box to work in FEM mode. Clear the FEM Mode check box to work in native mode.
• Advanced button—Opens the advanced portion of the
Model Setup dialog box, enabling you to choose between 3D and 2D modeling. 3D modeling is the default. If you plan to treat your model as a 3D model from the beginning, you do not need to use the
Advanced button. However, if you have already specified that your model is a 2D model and then wants to convert it to a 3D model; you must select the
Advanced button to redefine the model as 3D.
| Creo Simulate deactivates the Advanced button when you select the FEM Mode check box since FEM mode supports only 3D modeling. |
• Default Interface—Enables you to select the default interface type. You can use the default interface to connect component(s) in part and assembly models during meshing and analysis. By default,
Creo Simulate selects
Bonded as the default interface type.
After you have defined your model using the Model Setup dialog box and saved the model, Creo Simulate stores the setup information with your model. If you want to change the capability mode, model type, or mode, click > to open the Model Setup dialog box with its current settings. You can switch capability mode, modes, or model types by altering these settings.
If you tend to work with only one product or mode and you typically work with 3D models, you can streamline your entry into Creo Simulate through the use of configuration option. There are two situations in which this might prove useful:
• If you work primarily with one product only—for example thermal mode you can set the
simulation_mode configuration option to
thermal. This way each time you open a model for the first time,
Creo Simulate starts in thermal mode only.
• If you work almost exclusively in FEM mode you can set the
simulation_fem_mode configuration option to
yes. This way
Creo Simulate starts in FEM mode every time you open a model for the first time. The
FEM Mode check box remains selected on the
Model Setup dialog box when you enter
Creo Simulate. Clear this check box to switch to native mode.
