To Update Symbol Instance for Tagged Symbol Definition
You can change the symbol definition for any existing or newly created symbols by using the Update Symbol command which triggers the parameter update for all the instances of this changed symbol definition.
When updating a symbol definition to modify parameter tagging, if you retrieve a model having multiple symbol instances with older symbol definition, you can update the symbol instances of that model with the Update Symbol command. This command will update all parameters for all instances of the symbol definition.
The parameter values associated with the symbol gets updated based on the following conditions:
When a symbol definition is updated, the parameters update according to the latest symbol definition. If new parameters are defined, they are created for the symbol.
If the same parameter is present for the same grouping node or the variable text, it is retained.
For symbol instances that are already placed, if some parameter names are removed while updating the symbol definition, then these parameters are deleted from the existing symbol instances and a warning message will be displayed.
If a symbol definition has been changed significantly, then parameters that are no longer associated with any grouping node or variable text will get deleted and a warning message is displayed.
If a symbol definition is changed, after placing some symbol instances, to remove some of the tagged parameter names, then the removed parameters are deleted from the already placed symbol instances
