Placement Types Supported for Surface Finish
When you place a Surface Finish in Model-Based Definition (MBD), different placement types are available:
Automatic
On Entity
Normal to Entity
Automatic Mode—When you select this mode and move your pointer on a surface, the surface is detected, and the leader is automatically attached to that surface. Automatic mode is set as the default placement type. In MBD, you can control the default placement type by using default_placement_surfacefinish config option.
Placement types for Automatic mode are Free and With Leaders.
Free—Place the surface finish when you left-click the graphics window.
With Leaders—Place the surface finish on the selected reference with a leader. You can select multiple references by using the CTRL key and the left mouse button.
*
When you create a surface finish symbol with a leader and attach it to an entity, the leader can be snapped either normal to, or tangent to, the entity.
On Entity—Select a reference to place a surface finish on it without a leader. In a drawing, you can use the Select Reference dialog box to place the surface finish, though this is not required in a model.
Normal to Entity—When you select a reference, the surface finish symbol is placed perpendicular to that reference.
