To Create a Datum Point Offset from Another Point
1. Click
Model, click the arrow next to
Point, and click
Point. The
Datum Point dialog box opens.
2. In the graphics window, select a datum point or vertex. A new point is added at the selected location.
3. Define the offset direction by holding down the CTRL key while you select a direction reference from the following geometry:
◦ Datum plane or planar surface—Drag the point's handle normal to the selected reference.
◦ Straight edge, straight curve, datum axis or coordinate system—Drag the point's handle parallel to the selected reference.
◦ Coordinate system—Select a coordinate system for a three-dimensional offset, or select an axis (x, y, or z) of a coordinate system along which to offset the point.
| • Three-dimensional offset is available only if you select a coordinate system as the direction or second reference. Select one of the offset types in the Offset type box: ◦ Cartesian—Offsets from a coordinate system by specifying the x, y, and z values. ◦ Cylindrical—Offsets from a coordinate system by specifying radius, theta, and z values. ◦ Spherical—Offsets from a coordinate system by specifying radius, theta, and phi values. • If you select an axis of a coordinate system as the direction or second reference, then you can offset the point only along the selected axis. |
4. To set the offset distance, perform one of these actions:
◦ In the graphics window, drag the offset handle.
◦ In the graphics window, double-click the offset dimension and type the offset value
◦ In the Datum Point dialog box, type the offset value in the Offset box.
5. Click New Point to add more points, or click OK.
