To Create a New Part by Copying the Geometry from a Body
When you copy a body to create a new part, the new part contains a Copy Geometry feature that also copies the parameters and properties of the original body. Because of this, you might need to edit the definition of the Copy Geometry feature in order to perform some actions in the new part.
This topic contains two sections:
Create a part from a body
Edit the definition of the Copy Geometry feature to enable assigning a material to a body
Create a part from a body
1. In the Model Tree, in the Bodies folder, right-click a body and select Create Part from Body. The New Part from Body dialog box opens.
2. Type a file name for the new part, and click OK. The new part opens in a new window. The only feature in the Model Tree is an Extern Copy Geom feature.
Edit the definition of the Copy Geometry feature to enable assigning a material to a body
The Copy Geometry feature copies body properties, including materials, from the original part. This locks the body in the newly-created part so you cannot assign materials. You must edit the definition of the Copy Geometry feature in the new part before you can assign materials to the body.
To make the ability to assign materials available in the new part:
1. Right-click the Copy Geometry feature in the new part, and select Edit Definition. The Copy Geometry tab opens.
2. On the Options tab, under Include Properties, clear the Materials check box.
3. Click OK.
Now you are able to assign a material to a body in the new part.
