To Define Convection Conditions—Topology Optimization
Use the convection boundary condition to define a convective heat exchange condition for one or more geometric entities.
1. Click Home > Constraints > Convection Condition. The Convection Condition dialog box opens.
2. Enter a descriptive name, or accept the default name. Click the color swatch adjacent to Name if you want to change the color of the convection boundary condition icon.
3. Select the desired boundary condition set from the Member of Set drop-down list.
4. If you want to create a new boundary condition set, click New to show the Constraint Set Definition dialog box. Enter a name and optional description for a new constraint set.
5. Under References, select the entity type, and then select the geometric entities. You can select Individual, Boundary or Intent surfaces of your model. You can also select a surface set.
If you select the geometric entity before opening the Convection Condition dialog box, your selection appears in the References collector when the dialog box opens.
6. Click Advanced to expand the options. If you change the default values of the Spatial Variation options, the Advanced button is not available.
7. In the Convection Coefficient (h) section, under Spatial Variation, select an option:
Uniform, and then enter a value and units for the convection coefficient.
Function of Coordinates. The button appears, along with a list of predefined functions.
1. Select a function, or create a new function.
2. Enter a value and units for the convection coefficient.
8. In the Bulk Temperature (Tb) section, under Spatial Variation, select an option:
Uniform, and then enter a value and units for the bulk temperature.
Function of Coordinates. The button appears, along with a list of predefined functions.
1. Select a function, or create a new function.
2. Enter a value and units for the bulk temperature.
9. Click OK to apply the convection condition. A convection condition icon is placed at all the locations where the condition is applied.
