Guidelines for Assigning Mass Properties
Before you create a mass idealization that is based on a component (part or subassembly) in Creo Simulate, you must use Creo Parametric to calculate mass properties for the component, and save the component before leaving Creo Parametric.
Here are a few methods you can use to get the necessary mass information:
Part
Method 1–Mass properties based on density
1. Open the part in Creo Parametric.
2. Click File > Prepare > Model Properties to open the Model Properties dialog box.
3. Click change adjacent to Mass Properties to open the Mass Properties dialog box.
4. Specify a value for Density in the Mass Properties dialog box.
5. Click Calculate to calculate mass properties of the model.
6. Click Save or Save As to save the mass properties to the part. Click OK.
7. Ensure that you save the part.
Method 2—Mass properties based on material
1. Open the part in Creo Parametric.
2. Click File > Prepare > Model Properties to open the Model Properties dialog box.
3. Click change adjacent to Materials to assign a material to the model.
4. Click change adjacent to Mass Properties to open the Mass Properties dialog box.
5. Click Calculate to calculate mass properties of the model based on assigned material.
6. Click Save or Save As to save the mass properties to the part. Click OK.
7. Ensure that you save the part.
Subassembly
To use a subassembly as the component for your mass idealization, you must assign mass properties to all parts in the subassembly using one of the methods above. Save the subassembly.
If you have not assigned any mass properties for your subassembly or its components, perform the following steps:
1. Click File > Prepare > Model Properties to open the Model Properties dialog box.
2. Click change adjacent to Mass Properties.
3. Select Geometry and Parameters under Define Properties by on the Mass Properties dialog box and specify a density value.
4. Click Calculate to calculate mass properties for all the components in your subassembly based on the specified value of density.
5. Click Save or Save As to save the mass properties. Click OK.
6. Ensure that you save the subassembly.
When you create a mass idealization based on a component, a material assigned to the component in Creo Simulate is ignored.
