Load or import files (Creo Elements/Direct Annotation)
Any valid MI, DXF, or IGES file can be imported into Creo Elements/Direct Annotation. For Creo Elements/Direct Annotation to do this successfully, the data is first analyzed and then converted into Creo Elements/Direct Annotation-compatible data structures.
Creo Elements/Direct Annotation can recognize the following types of data imported as a 2D data file:
Data generated by Creo Elements/Direct Annotation as output from Save Drawing.
The file is loaded as a drawing, replacing an existing drawing.
Data generated by Creo Elements/Direct Annotation as output from Define Symbol as Template.
The file is loaded as a sketch into the active sheet.
After an import operation, Creo Elements/Direct Annotation informs you if a migration log file has been created. An import has been successful when no log file has been written.
In particular, when views have successfully been migrated and are recognized by Creo Elements/Direct Annotation, this status is indicated in the Drawing Browser. The view icons are displayed in the browser tree with blue (up-to-date) or cyan (needs-updating) underlining and text when the associated 3D model is loaded. Creo Elements/Direct Annotation can now update the views from the associated 3D model.
Views that cannot be updated are indicated by red underlining/frames in the Drawing Browser. These must first be manually attached to a 3D model before they can be used associatively. See Creo Elements/Direct Annotation Migration Tools for information about attaching views, and other 2D repair tools.
To load a 2D file,
1. Click File > Open. The Load file browser opens.
2. In File Type, select Import 2D.
3. Specify the file to load, and click Load. Creo Elements/Direct Annotation attempts to migrate the file.
To load a file into Creo Elements/Direct Annotation,
1. Click File > Open.. The Load dialog box opens.
2. Select the file type to load from the File Type cascade button.
3. If necessary, click Options and specify additional parameters for the load operation. This button is inactive if there are no additional options for the selected file type.
4. Specify the file to be loaded by selecting it or entering its name in the Filename field.
5. Click Load to load the file.
Loading some file types (for example, drawing and bundle files) will destroy the existing data in your current Creo Elements/Direct Annotation session.
Creo Elements/Direct Annotation cannot load files with double quotes or other special characters in their name. If you attempt this problems may arise, possibly causing Creo Elements/Direct Annotation to hang.
You can also load files by dragging and dropping them into Creo Elements/Direct Annotation from Windows Explorer.
