Configuring and Using Arbortext Import/Export
Arbortext Import/Export lets users export XML files to RTF and import RTF, Word (.doc and .docx formats), WordML, MIF, HTML, PDF, XML, and text files to XML using conversion templates and stylesheets.
Arbortext Import/Export is intended to be configured and used as follows:
Arbortext Import/Export is activated by setting set featureImportExport=on and set featureImportMapping=on in a custom installprefs.acl file for client workstations and an Arbortext Publishing Engine server.
Export Stylesheet developers work on client workstations with Arbortext Styler to create Export stylesheets. Completed Export stylesheets are stored on the Arbortext Publishing Engine server.
Import MapTemplate developers, using Arbortext Architect, work on client workstations or the Arbortext Publishing Engine server to create Import MapTemplates. Completed MapTemplates are stored on the Arbortext Publishing Engine server.
End users on client workstations use Arbortext Editor and Export Stylesheets stored on the Arbortext Publishing Engine server to export XML documents to RTF.
Exporting XML documents to RTF is also described as publishing documents to RTF.
End users on client workstations use Arbortext Editor and MapTemplates stored on the Arbortext Publishing Engine server to import documents to XML.
All Arbortext Import/Export features are available on Windows platforms. Arbortext Import does not support documents that contain Hebrew, Arabic, and Thai content.

For a complete list of supported platforms, including post-release updates, refer to http://www.ptc.com/partners/hardware/current/support.htm.
Your client workstations and Arbortext Publishing Engine server must be configured to support the creation and use of Export Stylesheets and Import MapTemplates. The remainder of this chapter provides the details of these tasks. For details on where to find specific information on creating Export Stylesheets and Import MapTemplates, refer to For More Information.
