.mfg File Obsolete
The .mfg file is obsolete. All manufacturing information will be stored in the .asm file. You can read a legacy .mfg file in Creo Elements/Pro, however, the file is converted to .asm when saving.

Benefits and Description
The .mfg file is removed and all the information for the manufacturing model is stored in the .asm file. This simplifies data management of the manufacturing model and provides additional functionality such as family tables and publishing other manufacturing models. Manufacturing file dependencies such as solid tools become dependencies of the .asm file.
When a manufacturing model created in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4 or earlier is retrieved the following occurs:
- The model carries the information stored in the manufacturing model in memory.
- Information is written to the assembly file on save.
- The .mfg file is no longer required to open the manufacturing model.
This applies to the followiing applications:
- Assembly machining and Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM)
- Mold and Cast
- Sheetmetal NC
