Benefits and Description
NX users are now able to Modify/Add/Revise/Delete NX part family instances without checking out the entire family table.
- Modifying an instance will only cause the instance being modified to be checked out (generic does not need to be checked out, and other members of the family will not be flagged as modified).
- Instances can be added without having the entire part family present in workspace.
- Instances are not generated until used in an assembly or manually generated by the user.
- This behavior is controlled by the Windchill preference “Independently Modify Instances”. This preference is set to NO by default which provides the same behavior as previous Windchill releases where the part family is treated as “inseparable” for the purposes of modification. Setting the preference to YES will invoke the new behavior described above.
For family tables containing a large number of instances, this enables more efficient management of those family tables by allowing the part family instances to be treated as independent business objects, and also allows the creation of instances as they are used, rather than forcing creation of all instances.
