Benefits and Description

In addition to existing HTTP protocol based (basic) authentication, Windchill now provides support for HTML forms-based authentication. Customers may choose to configure forms-based authentication to use the embedded Tomcat servlet engine as shipped with Windchill, or use a corporate solution supporting forms-based authentication.

One of the key benefits of forms-based authentication is that it allows administrators to customize the authentication page to include legal warnings, corporate graphics, or simple end user instructions to improve the user experience. It also provides the means to require users to re-supply their logon credentials in the case of a session timeout.

Basic authentication remains the default out-of-the-box authentication mechanism. If administrators wish to continue using basic authentication no action is required.
